A true definition of African beauty, our #MondayMotivation moment goes out to the reigning Miss South Africa Zozibini Tunzi. The Eastern Cape born beauty will once inject some ‘natural’ confidence into the local fashion and beauty landscape as the newly announced Ambassador for the SunMet 2020 campaign.
Since taking over the 2019 Miss SA title in August, the 26-year old has been vocal on how she aims to use her victory, “to educate and speak out on serious issue,” she shared on Instagram.
When she entered Miss SA, Tunzi’s intention was clear; to demystify the Western notion of beauty and likewise beauty pageants, where competing women are judged by their proximity to whiteness. So she decided to rock the stage clad in her short natural hair.
Likewise her Miss SA 2019 victory didn’t only sparked a hair-raising movement inspiring women to embrace their “blackness”, but helped changed the narrative that the “furthest you are from being fair-skinned the uglier you are”.
As she readies for the 68th edition of the Miss Universe in December, we can’t wait for the world and all the “doubting Thomases” to experience once again – and in Tunzi’s words herself – the depth of a black woman! – ZONK NEWS NEWSWIRES
