Film actress Pearl Thusi has been cast in the starring role of the first Netflix series from Africa entitled, Queen Sono.
The series will premiere later this month.
Written and directed by Kagiso Lediga, the series has been described as Netflix’s “first African original,” is a crime thriller that takes place in South Africa.
Even though Netflix has collected quite a number of African programs, this is the first series from Africa that it has developed from inception.
The official synopsis of Queen Sono: “After the assassination of her mother, Queen Sono grows up to become a kick- ass yet unconventional spy devoted to protecting the people of Africa. During a dangerous field assignment, Queen unknowingly uncovers shocking details about her mother’s death, sparking her own truth-finding mission”
Queen Sono is set to premiere on February 28.
Thusi is well known for her portrayal of various characters, including Patricia Kopong in The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, Dayana Mampasi in the ABC thriller Quantico and Samkelo in the romantic drama film Catching Feelings.
