Stephen Odhiambo, an artisan along Ngong Road in Nairobi Kenya, is set to become a millionaire after he replicated a multipurpose garden seat he saw online. An interested client posted it online last week, and the video went viral, making Odhiambo receive 700 orders within a day.
The seat that cost $220 can accommodate three people, but when extended, it takes up to six people facing each other ultimately with a table. Odhiambo says that since the seat made a debut online, his phone has been ringing nonstop. So far eleven clients have already paid upfront for the multipurpose garden seat.
“Huwa naingia nyumbani six, nakuambia kutoka saa hiyo ilikuwa simu juu ya simu hadi kitu kama saa sita na nusu,” said Odhiambo. Translating to:’ I usually get home at six, I tell you, from that time, it was phone call after the other until past midnight.’
Jua Kali is one of the sectors that has been hit by the novel coronavirus. Being in the industry, Odhiambo and the team are calling on the government to factor in the Jua Kali sector in the funds set aside to cushion the vulnerable groups in different industries during this Corona Virus pandemic.
