Mauritius Resumes Flights, Sets Up Online Platform for Quarantine Hotels

Mauritius Tourism Authority has set up an online platform ‘My Mauritius’ where those travelling to Mauritius as from 1st October, can choose a place to quarantine from a list of 17 hotels. So far, 86 passengers have already expressed interest on the platform.

Speaking during a Press Briefing on Wednesday at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis, the National Communication Committee spokesperson, Dr Zouberr Joomaye said that, to date, there are three 5-star hotels, eight 4-star hotels, and six 3-star hotels at the disposal of Mauritians and foreigners having either a residence, occupational permit and tourists for mandatory 14-days quarantine.

Dr Joomaye, however, accentuated that for the Mauritians who were abroad for medical treatment, the government will cater for their COVID-19 test and medical treatment to the tune of Rs 13,500.

On the resumption of flights, Dr Joomaye said that Mauritius–Paris and Mauritius–Reunion Island routes would be reopened. He also added that Emirates would operate one flight per week from Dubai. And Air Mauritius will fly twice a week to Paris and every Monday to Reunion Island.

Mauritius, however, suspended flights to South Africa and India owing to the alarming rates of COVID-19 cases. Dr Joomaye, said that” no flights will be allowed to and from these countries until further notice.” 

So far, Mauritius has recorded 367 cases with 339 recoveries, ten deaths and 17 imported active cases.
