Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko Celebrates Girl Child Day In Nairobi’s Urban Slums

Nairobi, Kenya – The embattled Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko celebrated International Day of the Girl Child in a special way. In a series of tweets on his Twitter page, Mike Sonko donated goodies to less fortunate in the urban slums of Nairobi. 

In Kawangware, Nairobi, the governor visited a children’s home where he interacted with ‘the beautiful angels.’ “We are celebrating the Girl Child today in style with kids from Kawangware Children’s Home. Juu leo ni International Day of the Girl Child 2020. We are donating food stuff and non-food stuff to these beautiful angels.” He tweeted

He also visited Kangemi and Gatina ward specifically Tazama slum. He called upon well-able Kenyans to feel sufficiently philanthropic and support the needy in the society.

“I’m encouraging all Nairobi’s and Kenyans, in general, to be philanthropic and support the needy members of our society during these tough economic times. Happy International Day of the Girl Child 2020.” He tweeted.

Deputy President William Ruto, also noted the commitment cemented in working with partners to create safe places for girls whilst exposing them in healthier life to propel.

Via Twitter, DP said, “On this International Day of the Girl Child, we commit to cement our working with partners to educate our girls, create safe spaces for them and expose them to a healthier life so that they can excel in whatever they do.” He tweeted.

He added, “We must support, empower and uphold girls’ rights for they have the power to transform the world and are an investment that promises a more equal, more equitable and prosperous future.”
