Nairobi, Kenya – Nick Mutuma, a Kenyan actor, has finally broken his silence on sexual assault allegations from 2017 which resurfaced online recently. Via his Twitter page, Nick released a statement on Monday stating that the allegations have taken a toll on his family and professional life.
“The allegations that came out against me in 2017 have since resurfaced and have taken a toll on me… they have affected my family and sadly continue to affect the people in my personal and professional life,” his statement reads.
Although Nick admitted his imperfections as a human being, he noted that it was challenging to convince people otherwise. “I know I’m not perfect; I’m not the person these people tried to portray me as, every day, I work towards being a better person; but it is so hard to do that when you are constantly being pulled back by people that are convinced that you are a monster.”
He added, “I do not want my silence to be interpreted as guilt or complacency, yet I do not want to speak and have my words misrepresented, I have been tried at the court of public opinion and ruled guilty by persons with malicious intentions,” he added.
According to Nick, a section of online users has been trying hard to bring down a career that he built for a decade. Additionally, Nick said that despite tearing him down, the same people are portraying him as a villain in their stories.
“They have been trying to discredit all my hard work, and they have done their best to see that my dreams never come true,” he said.
He added, “I would like to categorically state that I am against any form of abuse against women, and I have always been.
Last few days have been a nightmare for me and my family. Here’s my truth. pic.twitter.com/bWy2x9DcgJ
