The National Electoral Commission chairman, Mr Semistocles Kaijage declared the incumbent as the winner for the fiercely contested elections.
“The commission declares John Magufuli of CCM (Chama Cha Mapinduzi) who garnered the majority of votes as the winner in the presidential seat,” said Semistocles Kaijage.

As congratulation messages continued to trickle in from across the world, the United States, on Friday said they were deeply concerned about reports of systematic interference in the democratic process. They will also review credible allegations on the use of force against unarmed civilians.
