Zozibini Tunzi was crowned Miss Universe in 2019, monumental feet for South African women. She stood as a beacon of hope as she represented Africa on the global scene – with her shaven head, taking up space.
Last week, a tweep took a dig at her, and she had to respond, choosing her words wisely as she did so. Zozibini took to her social media to congratulate her Miss South Africa successor, Shudufhadzo Musida, on taking the crown.

“Blessings over your reign Queen,” wrote Tunzi, accompanied by a picture of Musida proudly wearing the Miss SA crown.
The following is what the tweep said:
@zozitunzi Niyabavithiza straight ngoku aba sisi be weave. Masithembe nalo sisi uzonyathela ezinyathelweni zakho abe ngu Miss Universe @abigailmusida Ndo dakala zwa huri vhathu vha zwo tshi divha huri having a weave thohoni doesn’t mean you’re beautiful. You’re beautiful 😊😃

And her response:
It’s actually not about that. It’s about autonomy. The ability of women expressing themselves however they choose to. It’s about saying we are all beautiful in our natural hair and in weaves for those who choose to. It’s not a competition but a celebration of ALL Women❤ https://t.co/YQsO4Z9y2l
