Section of Kenyan netizens is unpleased with Sauti Sol after fresh details emerge on why they cancelled the “Sol Saturday” concert, just three hours to the show.
A video by vlogger Kari’s Kitchen on Twitter detailed the reasons behind the cancellation of Sol Saturday where she was supposed to be the food vendor. She spent about Ksh300,000 on preparation.
“I cannot have spent sh. 300,000 on food and other foodstuffs, I’m on my way to dropping a grill at the event and you are telling me that all this food is going to go to waste because these guys have had a disagreement and they don’t want to perform” Kari’s Kitchen said.
According to the vendor, Sol cancelled the concert because they did not like the setup of the stage and not because of Covid-19 as they had earlier told fans.
“When I asked the reason for cancellation, Sauti Sol said stage is not good enough for their midnight train album launch, they can’t do it.” She added.
It also occurred that organizers of the event had requested the band to reschedule the concert to Sunday, to give engineers time to change the stage setup but they declined.
Earlier Sauti Sol addressed annulling the concert in consideration of health safety, citing that the event did not comply with Kenyan covid-19 protocols after not coming to consensus with the promoters, Tukutane Entertainment Limited, and Mass house group Limited.
The group assured the public that they were going to refund promoters the full performance fee paid immediately.
“It is disheartening and unfortunate, but necessary and we hope to appear on stage again as soon as we can do so safely and responsibly,” Sauti Sol said in a statement.
The band is yet to respond to Kari’s Kitchen’s allegations.
