LIMPOPO, South Africa — A 34-year-old man in South Africa has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing his wife at the parking area of Shoprite supermarket in Limpopo.
According to police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, the incident took place outside Shoprite supermarket at the corner of Grobler and Landdross Mare atreets in polokwame.
Mojapelo said police rushed to the scene after they received a call to alert them of the incident.
“On arrival, the bullet-riddled body of a 32-year-old woman was found inside a motor vehicle.” He said.
Police investigations reveal that the deceased who is believed to be from Seshego, was found together with a man when her husband arrived.
“An argument allegedly ensued and the husband allegedly took out a firearm and shot the woman several times. She died instantly.” Said Mojapelo.
The man who was with the victim is said to have fled the scene and police are searching for information on his identity.
Mojapelo said police recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
“The firearm will be subjected to ballistic examination to determine if it was used in the commission of other serious crimes. Its lawfulness will also form part of the unfolding investigations.”
He added that the motive behind the killing is still unknown but domestic violence cannot be ruled out.
The husband who is now facing a charge of murder is expected to appear in the Polokwame magistrate’s court soon.
