Mozambique– A self-proclaimed prophet from Chimanimani found himself in Mozambique after he was kidnapped as punishment for dating married women from his village.
Two Mozambican nationals and their alleged Zimbabwean accomplice allegedly kidnapped Naison Sithole aged 35 and took him to Mozambique as punishment for his transgressions.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Manicaland Provincial Spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the incident to the State Media.
According to reports from the police, the three only identified as Joro, Chokwarara, and Maphosa allegedly accused Sithole of having extramarital affairs with their wives, taking advantage of their vulnerabilities when they sought spiritual help from him.
The kidnappers reportedly assaulted Sithole before demanding 10 thousand rands from his wife as a ransom for his safe return.
Kidnapping and Abduction laws vary from state to state but normally apply to anyone who, without lawful authority, forcibly seizes and confines another, with intent to cause such other person to be secretly confined or imprisoned against his or her will.
kidnapping may be performed without true conscious criminal intent, with the accused claiming that at all times perceived consent was involved and that the charges of abduction were only fabricated long after the event.
Thus the crime of kidnapping and a related civil suit for remedies occurs in far more circumstances than that common demand for ransom.
