UGANDA — Uganda’s president Yoweri Museveni has nominated Jessica Alupo as the country’s vice president.
Alupo who is a former military officer will become the country’s second woman to hold the position since Speciza Kazibwe’s reign in 1994-2003.
The president also released a list of 82 newly appointed Cabinet ministers and other state ministers, among them his wife Janet Kataaha Museveni.
The new cabinet includes Ms Robinah Nabbanja who has been appointed the Prime Minister, General Katumba Wamala has retained his position as the Minister of works and transport while former NTV Uganda Editor Agnes Nandatu will assume the positon of Minister in charge of Karamoja region.
Ms Museveni retains her post as the minister of Education and Sports while Rebecca Kadaga will overtake as the 1st Deputy Prime Minister for East African Community Affair with Gen.Moses Ali as the 2nd Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy leader of Government business in parliament.
Others in the cabinet include, Tayebwa Thomas (Government Chief Whip), Mariam Dhoka Babalanda (Minister, Office of the President), Jim Muhweezi (Minister, Office of the president [Security]) and Hajat Kabanda (minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs) among others.
Uganda has for the past three weeks operated without a cabinet after Museveni dissolved the previous cabinet on the day of he was sworn in.
His list includes 32 cabinet ministers and 50 state ministers who will assume their positions after being vetted by parliament.
