NAIROBI-Kenya—Kenya’s 2022 general election is already around the corner. And the Kenyan political class is moving with uttermost speed to regroup, strategize, form new coalitions and new party outfits that will ferry them come August 2022.
One Kenya Alliance is among the newly formed coalitions, with Musalia Mudavadi of ANC, Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper, Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya and Gedeon Moi of KANU.
In a meeting on Tuesday the OKA principals were divided on whether they should reunite with ODM leader Raila Odinga in a formation to thwart Kenya’s current deputy president William Ruto who will also be contesting for the country’s top seat.
With insiders in the OKA alliance revealing that Moses Wetangula and Gideon Moi agreed they could unite with the long term opposition doyen. Though signs revealing ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi and Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka would only team up with Raila Odinga if he is ready to deputize any that will be given the OKA presidential ticket.
Though Raila is not ready to shelve his presidential ambition, despite having attempted severally with no success.
“Raila is the elephant in the room. We agreed the principals retreat on their own and resolve the issue.” Said one of the OKA officials whose identity could not be reveled for personal reasons.
Adding that, “Wetangula and Gideon have no problem with Raila. What they are saying is he should come with open hands and free time to engage, so that in a flat pitch all ideas will be heard and maybe a consensus would be reached.”
This comes after, the Kenyam president Uhuru Kenyatta who will be leaving office asked them to suppress their presidential ambition ego, front one candidate with whom he will evenly support.
Insiders in Uhuru’s camp disclosing Raila as the best stab for Ruto come 2022. While the opposition leaders are calculating out their matrix on who faces Ruto, The Dp’s strategic and tactical eyes are inwardly celebrating for a divided opposition, will give Ruto an easy ride to Statehouse.
