NAIROBI, Kenya—Kenyan upcoming rappers and singers were challenged to a rapping opportunity offered by Khaligraph Jones in collaboration with Odibets Company. A gambling company in Kenya.
Jones penned an agreement with OdiBets betting company to launch an online rapping contest dubbed OdiNare challenge.
An initiative that has been about elevating the local music industry, and supporting the growth of talents. The challenge culminated on Tuesday evening with rapper Katapilla claiming one million as the winner of the rap game.
Katapilla walked away with Sh 1000,000 after emerging number one among 6 finalists who made it to the grand final stage of the rap challenge.
The Kibera shanties born and bred rapper was voted for by fans who loved his love rap submission in the challenge.
The 25 years old tender rapper said, he is happy to have the challenge despite the stiff competition from fellow rappers.
“I do not have much to say, but allow me to thank my esteemed fans, this will apparently change my entire music career. I urge you to keep ears to the Kenyan hip-hop industry because that’s where we are.” He spoke.
The number two position was taken by Ben C, who claimed 500,000, while rapper Real Elai carried home –Sh.300,000 after emerging position three.
The last three finalists were also appreciated with Sh. 50, 0000 each. They were Achicho Software, Murasta, and Shekina Karen.
The Kenyan hip hop giant Khaligraph Jones, who collaborated with Odibets to make the event fruitful, said the six finalists will also have an opportunity to feature in Khali Cartel 3, apart from signing a recording deal with his Blue Ink label.
The Mazishi hitmaker said that the challenge was aimed to uplift talented rappers who are struggling to come up in the music industry.
“I believe everyone here is a winner, your determination, zeal, and energy is what has brought us here today.” He spoke.
