NAIROBI, Kenya—The eagerness about who best fits as Raila Odinga’s running mate continues to send chills to his opponents as he is set to officially announce his presidential bid on December 10th.

Raila is expected to officially launch his 2022 presidential ambition on December 10th at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.

Edwin Sifuna, ODM’s Secretary-General while speaking to reporters was noncommittal to shed light on the running mate puzzle.

“He has not shared his thoughts yet. The issue of running mate is not a discussion of today nor 10th because there is a lot of consideration that goes into a deputy.” Said Sifuna.

However, Raila’s insiders who spoke to the media on condition of anonymity divulged that the search for a running mate for the ODM leader has narrowed down to three.

According to the source, Raila is warming up to Mt Kenya region with the promise of a running mate coming from the region.

Several names had been proposed as potential running mates for Raila, including; Ann Waiguru, Peter Kenneth, Peter Munya, Justin Muturi Karua, and Lee Kinyanjui.

However, the sources said that the search for Raila’s running mate from Mt Kenya has now been narrowed down to three people.

The three said are said to be Martha Karua, Peter Kenneth, and Nakuru governor, and Kinyanjui has been traversing the country with Raila for his Azimio la Umoja campaigns.

The country’s next Deputy President is set to come from the three in case Raila wins the presidency in the August 9th, 2022 general election.
