Hitherto what attributed to the fire is yet to be identified.
According to Robert McKenzie, the KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services spokesperson, eleven people were injured, while two of those injured had been taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

He noted that paramedics saw people trapped in the building trying to escape the building by breaking windows and attempting to climb out, adding that they believed all occupants of the building had been rescued without major injuries.
Sources intimate that firefighters are still combing the building for any other people who may be trapped in the building.
