While speaking to delegates from the Mt Kenya region, Uhuru urged his community to support Raila’s campaign, claiming that he represents the country’s best interests.
In an apparent allusion to Deputy President William Ruto, the President stated that if he reforms, he will back him in the future.
“I’m encouraging you to vote for Raila Odinga because he genuinely cares about the country. We shall think about “my young man” when he “reforms.” “Uhuru remarked.
This is the first time President Uhuru has officially stated that he prefers the ODM leader to succeed him.
The President has been implying that he will support the ODM leader without saying it outright.
Uhuru boldly stated during the Sagana III meeting that Raila was the ideal fit not only for the Mt Kenya region but for Kenya as a whole.
Since taking over from former President Mwai Kibaki, the President claims to have multiplied the country’s economy.
He claimed that the ODM leader is aware of the country’s direction and will be content to hand over the reins of power to him.
“Kibaki left a Sh5 trillion economy, and today, the person I will transfer governance over to…and it is that guy (pointing to Baba’s cries) Yes!” Yes!
“The one I’ll be in charge of the government, and you mentioned him,” Uhuru said, “I’ll leave him a Sh13 trillion economy.”
He further revealed that his deputy principal was a party to the Handshake agreement and that he kept him informed at all times.
Uhuru also denied claims that the Handshake led to the expulsion of his government’s major partners.
“Prior to the handshake, I kept Ruto informed. The DP was the final man I spoke to before heading to Harambee House to meet Raila, and he agreed.”
